The Final Week
Today is the start to my last week in America before I leave. With that being said, what better way to spend the day then with my best friend and dad in one of my favorite cities ever, Chicago!
We started the day pretty early in the morning (which was hard because I usually sleep until like 10 or 11 in the morning and Savanah sleeps until like 1pm soooo). My brother was also supposed to join us on this trip, however he literally couldn't bring himself to wake up (we are literally all bums). Anyways our first stop on this trip was to visit my Aunt Gaye and Grandma. They are both in nursing homes due to health related problems (and my grandma is 95 years old), so neither of them were able to make it to my going away party, even though they wanted to. Visiting them was nice but pretty brief as we needed to catch the South Shore Line train into Chicago.
We all aimed for the 11:50am train but as we approached the station at 11:48am we weren't so sure that we would make it. My dad dropped Savanah and I off at the entrance as we rushed in to get our tickets then get up to the platform. Thankfully, since America lacks a bit in the efficiency/ being-on-time department, Savanah and I were able to make it on the train when it arrived a couple minutes late. My dad on the other hand was still driving around trying to find a parking spot (it was a full lot due to a Cubs game). Don't worry though, we waved to him as we got on the train. He ended up only being only about 40 minutes behind us on a different train and I was familiar with riding the train into Chicago as my family did it so much when we lived in Munster, Indiana for about 6 months.
When we arrived in Chicago, I took Savanah to Millennium Park (where the train basically dropped us off). I showed her the Bean, we listened to classical music at the amphitheater (amazinggg), and when we finally met up with my dad, went to Crown Fountain. The water mist coming from the fountain felt so good especially because it was a very hot day, plus it was so funny watching all the kids running around slipping and falling (we saw about 10 of them fall, some looked very painful). This is entertainment at its finest.
After Millennium Park, we started making our way to Michigan Street for shopping! We passed the Chicago Theater and had a whole photoshoot thanks to this random lady. She told us how to pose, fixed our hair, got different angles, and took about 50-100 photos. If you are my friend and don't do this for me, start taking notes. She was also really funny. A couple of our favorite quotes from her are, "Look Sexyyyyy," and "Get rid of it [referring to the scrunchie on my wrist]." Overall this was like a 10 minute ordeal, but hey, we got some quality pictures from it. Thanks random lady.
We caught a bus and rode all the way to the shopping, Water Tower Mall, Topshop, all the good places where Savanah and I (mostly Savanah) shopped for a solid 3 hours. While shopping we built up quite the appetite, so after everyone agreed it was time for some dinner. I gave the option for three choices on places to go eat, Gino's East, Vapiano, and Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders Company (everyone just calls it Oven Grinders though). Just a quick side note to any reader that might be going to Chicago anytime soon, I HIGHLY recommend any and all of these places to eat, they are the best. Both Savanah and my dad let me choose, and so after a bit of debating, I chose Oven Grinders. The wait (because there is always a wait) was about an hour and a half, but man that Mediterranean Bread and Deep Dish Pizza, TO DIE FOR. Honestly. Worth it. To me at least. Because Oven Grinders ate up (lol get it) most of our time, after dinner we just headed back for the train station to catch the 9:10pm train back. We got back around the area and walked around from a little bit, then headed to the station, and man were we tired.
Overall it was a very fun day and we didn't end up arriving at home until around 1 in the morning. I am very excited though that I got to go to the city one last time before leave next Wednesday!
