Berlin
For my first full day in Germany my family went to Berlin to take my host sister Johanna, to get her visa as she is also a Rotary Exchange Student who is leaving for Columbia next week. My host father Andreas, host mom Katrin, Johanna, and I all woke up pretty early in the morning to leave since it was about a 3 hour drive to Berlin. I was still very jet-legged but I got the chance to sleep during the car ride.
Once we got there we first ate breakfast at a cute cafe near the Columbian Embassy, which included Chai Tea, Croissants, Bread, Eggs, and was all very good. After breakfast we went to the Columbian Embassy for Johanna's visa where my host mom and I waited for a bit while Johanna and my host dad were in the appointment. Although I can not speak a lot of German and Katrin can not speak a lot of English, we were able to talk a little bit and show each other photos on our phones of vacations, family, friends, etc. After the appointment, Johanna and Andreas for everything to process and get printed while Katrin took me to show me some of Berlin. We walked to CheckPoint Charlie, and the Brandenburg Gate then met with Johanna and Andreas to get train tickets to Alexanderplatz to go up the Berliner Fernsehturm.
Once we arrived at the Berliner Fernsehturm, we all waited in line for tickets which took quite a long time and unfortunately it was very very hot so everyone was sweating. Once we got tickets we still had to wait an hour until our time to go up to the top of the Berliner Fernsehturm. In the meantime we walked around the area a little bit and got some Ice Cream!
The top of the Berliner Fernsehturm was so amazing! It gave us beautiful views of the Berlin and I got some great pictures. I was easily able to see all of the city and even into the countryside! We stayed up at the top for quite a while looking around at all of Berlin. I included some pictures so you guys can see as well. After the Berliner Fernsehturm, we all went out for lunch, where I tried Currywurst (most typical Berlin food) and Berliner Wisse (very popular Berlin beer). Both were very very delicious 10/10 would recommend anyone to try if you get the chance.
After a nice time in Berlin, we headed to my host uncles house to visit and eat lunch. Before however, we stopped to get some flowers and stopped at a lake called "Straussee See." I really enjoyed the short time at the lake because wadding in the cold water felt amazing on this very hot day.
At my host uncles house we ate dinner which was so good (as always). I had some lasagna type pasta, bread, sparkling water (so popular here), and tomato salad. Then Johanna, Nicole (host cousin), and I went swimming in their little pool!
Overall it was a great day and I am loving it here so far!
