Dresden Day!
Today Johanna, Saskia, Hannah, Mette, and I took the "Die DB" (The German Train that goes all around Germany) into Dresden for the day to hang out and do some shopping. We arrived at around 11ish and went shopping in the new part of the old city in Dresden. My goal of the day was to buy an EastPak (aka the most European thing right now that all kids our age have, it's basically a fannipack). I figured that this would be a good investment throughout my exchange, not only because it officially makes me German af, but also because it is very nice to use to carry a few things (such as your wallet and phone) while biking around Freiberg, etc. So while Saskia, Johanna, and Hannah went shopping for clothes, me and Mette went on a scavenger hunt to find me a EastPak.
As we walked around the mall, Mette and I went into random stores (Hollister being the main one lololol) looking for hot German guy employees. We went into Zara and picked out EXTREMELY ugly clothes for each other to try on, got smoothies, etc. I really enjoyed hanging out with Mette because she is super funny and has a very outgoing personality like myself. At around one we met back up with everyone at a restaurant called "Hans in Gluck," where they were all excited to show me their popular Burger and drinks. I (along with everyone else except for Mette) ordered the classic burger and fries with mango/mint soda and a coffee to finish up the meal. It was pretty delicious, I especially enjoyed the soda which is not like anything I have ever tasted before. Something really surprising to me while we were eating is that Saskia and Hannah ate their Burgers with forks. Like what? How? Something I have noticed that is surprising for everyone here in Germany is how little I eat. Since I am American, everyone thinks I would be fat and eat a lot, so when I don't they are very shocked to say none-the-less. Fortunately anytime I don't finish any of my food, Germans will finish it for me. They hate putting any food to waste.
After lunch, we all went back into the mall for a bit more shopping and frozen yogurt and I was unpleasantly surprised when I took a bite of my yogurt and it was sour! WTF! I am so use to everything in America being super sweet and sugary. This was just such a disappointment lol smh. It's ok though because Saskia and Johanna ate the rest of the yogurt that I didn't want. We also stopped by a drugstore (Alicia by day- Christina Aguilera by night, Skinni Vanilli), and a bookstore where I got yet another German learning book but this time with pictures/ diagrams next to every word so I actually know what I am saying!
Around 5pm we started heading back to the train station, stopping by a water-fountain in the city to sit and rest for a bit before catching the train back to Freiberg at 6pm. I unfortunately did not get to tour much of the city, but since it is the closest biggest city to Freiberg, Johanna said I would be back here many more times throughout this next year. Today was super fun and I am really happy that Johanna has been able to introduce me to a lot of her friends! Tomorrow I will be hanging out with all again, plus meeting lots more!
