I Cooked For How Many People?
One extra-circular activity that I have involved myself in here in Germany is a youth group every Monday at the "Dom" here in Freiberg. My host sister (now in Columbia), introduced me to this youth group and I am very happy she did. I have met some very nice people and we always have a lot of fun. Every Monday, one of the kids offers to make or bring dinner, however, from my whole time living here in Freiberg and attending this group I have never offered. With Thanksgiving later this week, I decided that I would make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for the Monday of November 19th. Turns out cooking Thanksgiving for the first time by yourself for 18+ kids is actually a very, VERY difficult task. Luckily I came to this conclusion before I started, and instead, I opted for Chicken Fajita's. A classic meal in my family that we eat almost every week. Right after school ended (12:45 on Monday's), I headed straight to the Supermarket to buy my needed ingredient's. I started cooking right when I got home, and at around 15:00 (3pm), my friend Marisa (also from the youth group), came over to my house to help! Two pans of chicken and a gigantic bowl of guacamole later, everything was finished right before it started at 18:30 (6:30pm)!
The dinner was a big success! Everything turned out SUPER delicious and everyone was really impressed! Many of them have never tried or even heard of Chicken Fajita's before, so I was really relived and happy they liked it. It was also a great way to show my appreciation for this group and overall helping me with my transition into Germany. Since they loved it so much, they even asked if I can cook again!
