Happy Thanksgiving!
Being a Rotary Youth Exchange advocate for the USA not only requires me to learn and further my knowledge about Germany and the world, but also allows me to bring my homeland culture to share with all the amazing people I meet. One way I figured I could do this is by sharing a classic American tradition, Thanksgiving dinner. Both Wednesday and Thursday I spent in the kitchen making some of my families traditional dishes. I need up making mashed potatoes, green beans, creamed corn, barbecue chicken-bake (in place of a turkey, because that is way too hard for me to make alone), and two pumpkin rolls for dessert (with LOTS of help from my younger host sister, Clara). Before the dinner started I also told my family that we have to go around and say something we are thankful for, as that is what this whole holiday is about.
My family really seemed to enjoy my Thanksgiving meal and I am actually quite impressed that I was able to cook all this food alone. I am so glad that I was able to share this important holiday with them and show my German host family a little bit of American culture!
